CAFOD CORONAVIRUS APPEAL In all the countries where CAFOD work, this pandemic has caused catastrophic problems, with of course the poorest being affected most. Food prices have escalated, jobs lost, and many countries have, at best, basic health care, if any at all. Please visit the CAFOD website (cafod.org.uk) to find out how people are being helped in other parts of the world and how we can help CAFOD by signing their petition. CAFOD have launched an appeal to help these desperate people. Whilst we cannot have a collection in the church, you can donate directly. Details can be found on: cafod.org.uk/coronavirus, which gives full details of how make a payment, and how CAFOD are responding to the crisis. If you would prefer to make your donation by telephone, you can ring CAFOD on 0303 303 3030.
ATTENDING MASS AT ENGLISH MARTYRS CHURCH I hope you are enjoying the opportunity to come back to Mass in our church. However, opening for Mass is dependent upon our ability to conform to the guidance and conditions set by the Government on appropriate social distancing, stewarding, cleaning and hygiene protocols. We ask everyone to continue to respect and follow the guidance issued and the instructions in the church. At present, the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains suspended. Please be aware that there is a limit of 25 people who can attend each Mass. A “reservation system” is in place; contact Maggie on (01460) 75714 to book your place at a Mass. Booking is essential as half of the pews are taped off to meet social distancing requirements; when the available seats are filled, anyone who arrives and has not booked cannot be admitted. Once you have booked to attend a Mass, please let Maggie know if you should decide not to attend, so that your place can be offered to someone else. This is especially important for the weekend Masses, where there is a great demand for places and a “waiting list” is in operation. All Masses will be in Chard at present (See page 1). Please consider attending any of the weekday Masses, instead of automatically choosing a Sunday Mass. We will continue to offer four sessions of Adoration, when you can come into the church to pray in private, subject to demand. You do not have to book for these sessions, but attendances will be monitored. PLEASE NOTE: from Saturday 8th AUGUST, FACE MASKS MUST BE WORN WHEN ATTENDING MASS. You will notice some differences in how the celebration takes place. For the time being, there will be no congregational singing and Mass will be shorter than usual. The Church will be regularly cleaned and disinfected and the numbers of people and spacing will be monitored. Those attending should use the hand gel provided and maintain a safe distance from others. We need more volunteers to help steward this programme of Masses and Prayer – please speak to Maggie (01460) 75714 if you are willing to help. Thank you for your co-operation! Fr. Dominic
